ShoreTel IPO May Benefit Customers and Investors Alike

Starting a few years ago, Google began buying thousands of miles of so-called “dark fiber”--fiberoptic communications wiring that was installed in the ground but going unused. The fiber was historically cheap thanks to a fiberoptic building boom that had gone bust, allowing the Mountain View search giant to acquire large amounts of it for pennies on the dollar. ...

Wire HipTel Broadband Phone Service In My Home?

When purchasing HipTel as your primary phone service provider it works best when all phones in your house are compatible with HipTel. There are two ways to go about doing this. The first method and the easiest is purchasing a set of expandable cordless phones.

The Simple Solution

Expandable cordless phones are a set of cordless phones that rely on the main phone unit to receive service. Only the main phone is plugged into the phone jack. The other headsets receive their signals from the main unit. Simply plug the HipTel phone adapter (ATA) into the main phone unit and place the expansion handsets for your phone around the house. Today's high quality cordless phones are easily able to transmit signals throughout the house and even outside. For optimum quality, we recommend purchasing a 5.8 GHz phone, but any phone 900 MHz and up should be sufficient.

The second method of connecting your phones to HipTel involves modifying your home phone wiring. It is not a difficult task, but if you have a basic understanding of how telephone wiring works it will help tremendously. Modifying your home wiring system will allow you to plug any phone into the wall outlet and receive HipTel service.

Rewiring your phone system is best done to a single family home that you own. People renting apartments, condos and other shared space, might not want to fiddle with wiring and would be better off purchasing an expandable cordless phone set.

Please note: In modifying your home telephone system to distribute HipTel throughout your house's phone jacks you will be completely removing yourself from your local phone company. This process is completely reversible following the same steps in the reverse order. If you are having your phone number ported to HipTel, DO NOT disconnect yourself from your local phone carrier until HipTel has completely ported your number. Failure to do this may result in loss of phone number.

IMPORTANT: Phone lines carry voltage. Improperly changing the wiring in your house may result in equipment damages, risk of fire or injury to yourself. If you do not feel comfortable changing your phone system's wiring, we strongly recommend hiring a telephone technician.

Set Up My USB Phone?

A USB phone is a regular phone that connects right into your computer. It is a great solution for VoIP and provides portability for wherever you go. Just plug your USB phone into your laptop or desktop and anywhere you receive a broadband Internet connection you can use your USB phone; even if the Internet connection you have is wireless (WiFi). Installation and set up for your USB phone is a quick and easy.

Set Up My IP Phone?

An IP phone is a corded phone that plugs directly into your Internet connection. It does not have a regular phone jack on it. Instead it uses an Ethernet cable (RJ45) to connect to the Internet. IP phones are very useful and like a USB phone provide portability. Just bring your IP phone anywhere you go, plug it in to any Internet connection and begin calling. In your package with your IP phone should be: the IP Phone, a headset (with wires), power cord and an Ethernet cable. If you use a router to split your internet connection, we recommend plugging the IP phone into your internet system before the router.
