PBX, What's that?
A Private Brand eXchange, more commonly known as a PBX, is a device that permits users to share a certain number of outside lines for making telephone calls external to the PBX. It is unrealistic for a company with thousands of employees to add separate external phone lines for each employee in the company. Instead, large companies purchase a set amount of phone lines and use a PBX to distribute phone lines adequately to employees. This is commonly recognized by pushing 9 to reach an outside line.
A PBX also creates an internal phone network within an enterprise. Employees can use three or four digit dialing to reach another employee within the same organization.
Even if they are at separate geographic locations.

It is estimated that 97% of new phone systems installed in America will be broadband phones, or hybrid phone/internet systems.
